BLUE MOUNTAIN JASPER
Gemologists have
categorized 5 different jaspers to be the Top Fine Jaspers of the World.
Those 5 jaspers are Bruneau, Willow Creek, Blue Mountain, all of the
Imperial Jaspers, and Morrisonite. Most of these five are also
porcelain jaspers which means the final polish is as bright and glossy as fine
china would be after it has been fired.
Blue Mountain Jasper is found in
Oregon just north of the Oregon/Nevada state line near McDermitt,
Nevada.
All of the 'Fine' jaspers are
defined by the presence of a particular pattern that results from a common set
of circumstances in the formation process. Not all of the fine jaspers
will exhibit the same patterns but, most will have overlapping oval shapes
referred to as orbs, eggs, or rolls.
Blue Mountain Jasper usually has
a dark blue, to almost black, background matrix color which can make it
difficult to see the orbicular patterns in the stone. Of all the five
fine jaspers, Blue Mountain may be the most difficult to locate in any amount
of rough material.

This lovely cabochon of Blue Mountain Jasper has a very dark matrix
background color so its a bit difficult to see the large orb that starts half
way down the stone.
This is a gorgeous
cabochon cut out of VERY RARE material and it is pit and fracture free and has
taken that fantastic final polish that only the fine jaspers can take.
All
of our cabs are polished on the back unless otherwise stated.
